The computer vision system is based on inputs from 3 thermal cameras. The cameras detect heat patterns, which allow humans in the image to stand out from its surroundings. This makes it possible to track people as they move in front of the cameras. By knowing which direction the camera points, it is possible to turn the person’s position in the image into a position in the real world, and calculate, speed, occupancy orientation.
The sensor data is send to a light design system, where different types of design logics, can change the lighting on the square according to occupancy. During the different experiments we test how people react to different interactive street light scenarios.
